Agent-centric in Holochain

If you have heard about Holochain and wanted to understand it, at the first step you would encounter to the new concept named Agent-centric. Actually without having a deep understanding about Agent-centric you cannot see all the possibilities in this project or better to say ideology which seems going to deliver a lot to the future of our society

So, let’s start, what is Agent-centric?

I am going to explain Agent-centric using a tangible example with chatting system or application.

I have a chat channel with all my family members. So when I am sending this message to this channel: “I miss you”, all receivers would immediately smile, and most probably my mother heartbeat rise a little bit and consequently I would receive a nice feedback like Heart Emoji and etc.

 

Let’s imagine I am also part of a chat channel at my company with my CEO, CTO and our Network Administration. What would be the reaction if I would send “I miss you” in this channel? I can imagine my boss’s face when he receive this message for the first time, and if it is going to be continued again and again, most probably they would notify me that this channel  is not targeting our goal anymore and I should correct myself.

I am sending the same sentence and alphabet -“I miss you”- to several channels, but receiving totally different responses base on the context and conditions of each channel.

In Holochain terminology we can call each chat channel as a new DNA which has its own conditions and rules. In this case the data – alphabetic sentence “I miss you”- is not the center of world which is producing the value. Each role of person in the context of rules or condition – here channel or DNA – is the center. Hedayat as a family member is an agent which is different than the Hedayat as a colleague.

Number of times that I sent “I miss you” cannot evaluate my personality alone, it should be measured based on the context and conditions in DNA that I am playing a role in.

You might ask how we are going to receive benefit from this terminology in our society. So let’s continue with a screenshot of Arthur Brock presentation and expand our example. New Economy, New Wealth

In nutshell this picture is showing the process of creating a real value based on the Agent-centric model instead of monetary system which is running in our era.  However this slide somehow fits to body system and blood, but I would like to continue our example in chatting system.

 

Product of system(Tradable wealth)

“I miss you” is a data coming from an effort of human who wasted energy and pressed some buttons to produce it. This data is source of trade. However in our example you can freely send message to channel, but to clear up the picture, imagine you want to send a message in dating website. so you need to pay to be allowed to send “I miss you”. So this alphabetic material is tradable.

Properties of systems(Measurable Wealth)

In the family chat channel example, what are the properties of a family group conversation? Informal conversation, joke, memories, planning family gathering and etc.

What about my job channel?  Politeness, formal conversation, review customer issue, scheduling next meeting and etc.

As you see in the picture, this section can measure the wealth of data.

Sending this message: “your shirt is awful” to your brother might end up to a funny conversation, but can make you jobless if goes to your boss.

Performance of system(Rankable Wealth):

In this layer some experts like psychologist come to the game and can say how much a system is preforming well.

Healthy family with strong relation and good support has some metrics. Right? The communication and chat style between family members are good indicators for a psychologist to evaluate a group as a family –DNA – is in a normal or challengeable situation.  The same can go to business and company as well.

In this layer we see the  differences between Data-centric and Agent-centric clearly. Now we can do a real ranking for “I miss you”  sentence. This sentence is nice and warm message if your are in the role(Agent) of a family member, and time-consuming, irresponsible and inefficient if you are at work.

Relationships between systems.(Nameable Wealth)

This layer represents that how a system can deliver values to another one and how the systems are correlating each other. For this layer would be better to go to a better example like Rating system and transferring rating value from one system to another. For example transferring a driving skill rate of a driver from Uber to BlaBlaCar applications. If you are a good driver with a hight reate in Uber – which is your value there – you should be able to transfer your value to BlaBlaCar easily and receive the benefit of your value.

But let’s stick to our example, chatting. Needless to emphasis how much pressure can be transferred by an employee between home and work and vice versa with positive value.

Evolutionary Capacity of System.(Possible Wealth).

It is the layer that we can see the value and receive the all benefits of this ecosystem. When we see the final result- value of agent- passed throw other layers, we are ready for improvement and correctness. We know how to measure each layer’s value and we can start analyzing for the possible new higher value either  by improving a system or improving the correlation between systems.

Take in to account that I didn’t say value of the data. Value of the Agent!

Currently all values in our society measured by a single flat layer named money. So if you produce more money you worth more. It is the reason of forest destruction, air pollution and etc. Just to create money out of anything and then circulate this money between different ecosystems. Businesses are cutting trees to make money and then spend million dollar to buy a nice and big villa in the middle of tress with a beautiful view.

My value in the society is equal to salary that I receive from my job. If I want to be worth more, I need to implement better functions in our project or make our customers happier, and then company might increase my salary. So what is my role in this improvement? how much extra effort I should put for that? I am offering product of company to my friends and family and supporting them to stay at our products, is it not a value for my company?

What about my value in other DNA like family? My brother is doing a great job at his company because I am supporting my family pretty well. If am a good Dad, good teacher, good social activist, good driver or good student, how the society and our money base system evaluate all of them?

It seems society is totally blind to all my scattered values and just looking at my bank account balance.

In our current money based system, how an expert can advise a company that your employee need to fix domestic family issues to have a better performance at the job?

It is the main reason we need to review the meaning of currency in our social life and find a new way to figure out all the real values. Collecting emails, locations, phone numbers and searched keywords of users and then running relevant Ads can just make money, not value.
